About Nicci

Hi there!

My name is Nicci Brown, and I am a Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist. I graduated from The Ohio State University in June 2012 with my Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, and I am three weeks away from being done with my Masters in Nutrition at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.

In a nutshell, I love food and nutrition. I’m not the junk food police (I enjoy my fair share of treats from time to time), but, that being said, I follow the “everything in moderation” lifestyle. I truly believe that with all the vitamins and minerals and nutrients that our bodies need, there isn’t a lot of room for the “empty” calories that come from crap. Slice of French Silk Pie? Don’t mind if I do! Every once in awhile, that is.

I also know that, in this internet age, that there is a lot of confusing, conflicting information out there about nutrition – and some of it is downright false. Through this blog, I hope to clear up some of the misinformation, clarify the mind boggling aspects of nutrition, and translate the most helpful and important nutritional topics. From time to time I will also share recipes that I put a healthy spin on, covering all sorts of different foods from the popular guilt free raspberry margaritas to my family’s staple dinner: veggie shrimp stir fry.

I believe that nutritious eating, exercising and sweating regularly, and a joyful approach to each day add up to a healthy lifestyle. My feelings on the subject of nutrition can be summed up in a couple of poignant quotes:

“Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food.” -Hippocrates

“The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine, or the slowest form of poison.” -Ann Wigmore

Besides nutrition, I take great joy in reading for fun, running (when the weather is perfect, when I’m feeling perfectly energized, and when a host of other conditions are met…ha), exciting forms of exercise, enjoying the company of my family and friends, writing, sunshine, dancing in my living room, and singing loudly in the car. I love playing with my dog, Remy, and I LOVE all things brightly colored.

I greatly dislike whining (not to be confused with wining), raw tomatoes, poor grammar, uncooperative hair days, washing dishes, fad diets, and when Ohio State loses in football.

In the spirit of health and happiness,
